The semi-displacement Winnipeg Yawl hull is a timeless, globally used design with Scandinavian roots brought to Lake
Winnipeg by Icelandic settlers in the late 1800s. Blending the speed of a planing hull with the efficiency of a
displacement hull, it offers comfortable rough-water performance and fuel-efficient operation under heavy loads and
across a wide range of speeds.
Characteristics of the Winnipeg Yawl Rough-Water Hull:
- Fiberglass Construction
- Narrow Beam: A slim beam lets the hull slice cleanly through waves instead of slapping against them.
- Bow Flare: Generous bow flare deflects rough water outward for a drier, smoother ride.
- Low Center of Gravity: The deck sits close to the hull, keeping weight low and improving stability.
- Stable Performance: Despite the narrow beam, the low center of gravity maintains excellent stability.
- Bow Rise: A pronounced bow rise helps prevent large waves from washing over the bow.
- The stern transitions to a flat section with a rounded chine, providing strong lift and steady handling.
The best of both worlds: the center console allows easy access to the bow seating and storage, and the roof and windscreen provide protection from the weather.
